With the release of BackupAssist v6, you are able to license BackupAssist for Rsync as either a Standalone license or as an Add-on license.

What's the difference between the two products?

The BackupAssist for Rsync Standalone license

The BackupAssist for Rsync Standalone license is intended for those who only want to run offsite Rsync backups via the internet, and do not need the local backup facilities included in a BackupAssist base license and other BackupAssist add-on products.

The BackupAssist for Rsync Standalone license is a cost-effective option if you only need to run internet backups because it can be activated without a BackupAssist base license. You will, however, only be able run Rsync backups with a BackupAssist for Rsync Standalone license. The BackupAssist for Rsync Standalone license is not compatible with any BackupAssist add-on license.

The BackupAssist for Rsync Standalone license is priced at $173.00 (USD)¹ and comes with 12 months of BackupCare. The 12 months of BackupCare is included with new purchases of BackupAssist for Rsync Standalone as well as for those upgrading an existing BackupAssist for Rsync license to a BackupAssist for Rsync Standalone license.

A current BackupCare Subscription is required to monitor backup jobs in the Centralized Monitoring Console² for your clients running BackupAssist for Rsync Standalone, and will also give you free access to any new release of BackupAssist for Rsync. The BackupAssist for Rsync Add-on license is intended for use alongside other BackupAssist products so you can run offsite internet backups in addition to other types of local backups. To use the BackupAssist for Rsync Add-on license you must have a BackupAssist base license activated on the same machine.

If the associated BackupAssist base license has a valid BackupCare subscription, you'll be able to:

• Monitor Rsync backups using the Centralized Monitoring Console (CMC)¹
• Receive free upgrades to new releases of BackupAssist and all licensed add-ons.

Whether you choose to upgrade to an add-on or standalone version, the upgrade is completely free if you have an existing BackupAssist for Rsync v5 license.
